The main thing about launching a boat is to not flood the engine. Some people blame engine failure on additives in the gasoline. Whatever you do, start it up slowly. If you gun the engine full throttle, the boat could flip over or crash into a tree.

over a hundred degrees

july7c-thumbnail.jpg click here to see more pictures. Yesterday the temperature went above a hundred, without adding in humidity. It’s like being in a several-day long sweat bath. As the body melts, the mind becomes increasingly porous or transparent. It’s a good time to go to the beach, where even there, the water is as hot as a forgotten cup of coffee.

Yesterday afternoon, most people went to cool off at various swimming places and then stopped for ice cream on the way back. Probably people will do the same again today. It’s wonderful to be able to spend a week with a large gathering of friends.

Family Camp 2010

This year 217 families gathered to enjoy the beauty of being among friends in the beautiful Vermont countryside. During family camp, participants have time to meditate and to do family activities such as going swimming, arts and crafts workshops, evening campfires, musical sessions and so on.

Two DJs provided an excellent lineup of dance tunes, inspiring young and old alike to jump up and start dancing. A lot of wonderful moments and good vibes happened. At the end of the dance, people walked away smiling.

A lot of talented people brought their instruments to family camp. Music making added to the joyful and friendly atmosphere.

At the reservoir, Family Camp, August 2009

aaa2.jpg click here to see more pictures. Afternoons were free for those who wished to go swimming. Yesterday a lot of people went to the reservoir, a beautiful lake about ten miles from Karme Choling. I included sequences of the rope swing and muscle men on the beach.

Family Camp Barbeque, August 2009

aaa1.jpg click here to see more pictures. The days of heavy rain eased off and allowed family campers to enjoy a barbeque. The teens in this photo hiked up some newly purchased property and hung prayer flags from the summit of one of the hills. It was a happy moment; young people returned from putting up the flags, happy hour on the front porch, standing in line to have a burger fresh off the grill.
