my house-dec.jpg

Here’s another view of the house where I lived in Aupaluk. I now live in Kangirsuk. I moved to Kangirsuk in August, 2006 and will soon be doing postings for this village. I got behind with Aupaluk postings, due to technical difficulties. I’m working on the technical end of things as the blog unfolds.

I lived upstairs, in the green part of the house. It was quite spacious inside and offered a nice view of the landscape. The house is at the edge of the village. The footpath in the snow is the route I used to go to school everyday, a three minute walk. That’s one of the nice features of a northern village, there’s no rush hour, or no traffic jams.

There’s also time to have a nap during lunch. I eat the same thing for lunch every day: spaghetti, garnished with olive oil, sometimes balsamic, parmesan cheese (I picked up a hard block of parmesan from Milano, one of my favorite Italian grocery stores in Little Italy, Montreal). Sometimes I add tuna, or dried tofu. Then after eating, I lie on the sofa and float away into pleasant relaxation before heading back to school. (more…)

Dr. Waltraud Gudrian received her PhD from University of Montreal a few years ago. She wrote in her disertation about exile-identity and focused on the work of Canetti and Naipaul. In January, 2006, Waltraud told me some unusual stories from her life. Her life of travel and living in different places exemplifies what she wrote about. She recently spent three months in Ireland and is now living in Toronto.
