Life in Montreal

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

caribouman.jpg Hello to the people of Kangirsuk. I miss you. It was nice living in Nunavik for six years and teaching school. In June 2009, Caribou Man moved from Kangirsuk to Montreal, where he has been sited, on several occasions, reading a book in various libraries, making radio broadcasts and whooping it up from one situation to the next, taking plenty of pictures and inventing stories along the way. First Impressions

aaa.jpg click here to see more pictures. Back in the city, trees, bright colors, cloudy skies, friends, relaxation, a bottle of olive oil, dollar store sardines… every picture has a story. The camera helps me stop to appreciate people, shapes and colors along the way. Don’t look back. No time for regret. Keep going.

Spring Break, April 2009

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

aaaa1.jpg click here to see more pictures. April 7 was a good day to travel from Kangirsuk to Montreal. The planes were not crowded. They offered friendly service, so the flight was actually a lot of fun. Irena picked me up at the airport and took me to her place, where her friend Sylvain cooked a delicious meal.

Return to Kangirsuk, January 6, 2007

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

click on the photo to see more pictures. It was an enjoyable winter break. The time went fast. During the last few days in Montreal I did my best to get as many errands done as possible, but to also have fun with Malina, my ten year old daughter. The return flight was smooth, except there was a baggage mix up, so some people didn’t receive their luggage right away. It’s nice to be back in Kangirsuk. It’s exciting to get off the plane and be back in the spacious elements of the north.

Montreal Images

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Here are some more images from Montreal, some taken during spring break, 2006, the rest during summer, 2006. I spend most of the year in Nunavik, in Kangirsuk. I’m starting to feel like a tourist in Montreal. It’s a photogenic city. It’s hard to know where to begin. I like taking pictures of people, windows and signs. There’s a lot of color and creativity on display. Sometimes the city appears like a giant art museum. Some of the images are quite strange and colorful. It’s a delight. It’s fun to sit up here on a Monday night in Kangirsuk and to sort through photos from Montreal and to appreciate some of the details that make it such an interesting city. Click on the photo to see more images of store windows. There’s a photo of my friend Aaron on a bicycle, a lost cat poster, a picture of a cloud passing a wooden pole. I fixed up the sky picture a bit, stripping it away to try and give an impression as to how it felt to stand on a balcony in Mile End one summer afternoon and to see a lone cloud.
