kangirsuk Idol

aaaa3.jpg click here to see more pictures. Dave Lane hosted Kangirsuk Idol on Monday night in Kangirsuk. People from the community were invited to perform. Best performers were chosen from three categories based on age. A DVD of the performance was made. It was a highlight event for the month of June in Kangirsuk, thanks to the effort of Dave Lane to make it happen.

Luc Lefebvre, Primary Teacher, Sautjuit School

click on the photo to see more pictures. Luc Lefebvre teaches primary French at Sautjuit School, Kangirsuk. He lives two houses down the street from my place. He’s a great conversationalist, with a good sense of humor and is also physically fit. Having pleasant colleagues is an essential part of maintaining a good morale in the school. Luc, like many people who end up working in the north, was born in a small town, far from the city and close to the wilderness. I asked him to talk a little about his experience.

interview with Andre Dauphin, principal, Aupaluk

In June, during a break between flights, I met with Andre Dauphin at the Kuujjuaq Inn and he told me a little about his background and his experience of being principal in Aupaluk.

I can say from first hand experience that he is an excellent principal, because he offered encouragement and inspiration to the teachers, especially during the darker months, when it is important to keep up the morale. It showed at the end of the year, as students worked hard to complete their exams.
